Yearly AGM, we hope to see you!

The Committee are currently in talks to organise our yearly meeting, it would be fantastic to have as many of our members in attendance as possible and we are looking at ways we might be able to run a hybrid meeting for those who cannot make it in person. Date and location is being discussed and details will be shared as soon as they can be.

We look forward to discussing the club and matters arising, making sure you can have your say about our club and the things that matter.

Happy Christmas & New Year 2024

We wish all our members and their families a Happy New year for 2024, we hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas. 

Shooting will resume on Saturday 6th of January at Cottondale, we look forward to seeing the most resillient of our shooters in the cold weather!

Club WhatsApp Group

As requested by many members of the Club, we now have a closed WhatsApp Group alongside the Closed Club FaceBook Group page. The Facebook now serves as a way for members to see the weekend shoots at Cottondale and pictures from Club members of their shooting travels and escapades, alongside the WhatsApp group for quick notifications. This also allows us open communication with committee members and the weekends Range Officers and organisers. We look forward to anyone interested in being included that is a full Club member on there, please let us know if you haven't received and invite yet and would like one!

2022 & 2023 AGM

Thanks to everyone for their involvement in our AGM this year. With COVID times in the rear view mirror, it was wonderful to have a physical meeting to support the continuation of our club and to make sure you all can see our club constitution being upheld and to have your say.

One of the big reasons the club was formed was to make sure members have their say and the power to keep the club an open; friendly, family oriented and safe club to be a part of. 

We very much appreciate everyone who took their time to attend, the minutes for the meeting are available and should have been emailed to everyone in the club so they can be read by those who didn't.

Northern Shooting Show 2023

Another year- another NSS! There will be many interesting things to see and buy, our own Si will be there with Jackal Firearms under the Bergara flag this year, with many members attending.

Happy Easter

It's been great seeing more people attending Saturday shoots and Neil our competition lead has been putting together some interesting fun competitions for members.

This week saw an Easter Egg prize table for a fun Easter themed competition; there will be more to follow as the sunshine comes into full swing, all we can say is you might all need to dust off your Cowboy Hats and boots before Summer is over!

New Range Officer Qualifications Accomplished

A huge congratulations to all our members who completed the NRA Range Officer safety course! We all appreciate their incredible efforts of course; running details and giving their time to the club- without them the club wouldn't be what it is at all! 

We will now have more people able to run shoots in rotation, with the qualifications and knowledge that is necessary for a level of safety and running a range on par with the highest standard in the UK

The Passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II's

We are all deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. 

She was an exceptional monarch and head of state, a wonderful role model of virtue; steadfastness, and responsibility who will undoubtedly be mourned for years to come- certainly never forgotten.

We give thanks for her wonderful legacy and we are uniquely aware of how much we; as members of the British Sports Shooting community, owe her for her support of grass roots shooting in Britain and her efforts throughout her life in conservation. 

Queen Elizabeth shall be sorely missed by us all.

Practical Session Cancelled

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to organise a practical competition season at Wolds Shooting Club; we've been unable to find a middle ground that will allow us to continue with safety at a satisfactory level for our host range.

Albeit that there is obviously a group of talented shooters with an appetite for practical shooting in the club, we won't be able to get it running currently. Having made a purchase of some range equipment we are looking to potentially partner with another range in the future to get a club practical contingent going and we will update you with any details.

Annual General Meeting

Thank you to all those that attended the 2022 AGM. It was wonderful to see everyone physically rather than digitally as in years before. It's always been a big part of the ethos the club was formed with that every member should have an opportunity to ask important questions and have their say, it was a great meeting all round and we are so glad the meeting was so well attended. Minutes have been sent to all members via email and can be provided to members in other formats by request.

December Practical Shoot

Many thanks to Gareth, John and Gill for putting together a wonderful Practical Shoot on Saturday 11th. It was brilliant to see 10 members turn out, a brilliant time was had by all and Gareth set out an interesting and fun course of fire! We will be looking to set up more practical events in the coming year. 

Since this was not a competitive shoot, there is no winner, but well done to everyone for some great results.

Reloading Carefully

It seems there have been some recent incidents with home grown ammunition at Bisley. The greatest of care should always be taken when making your own ammo.

We are fortunate to have some very knowledgable members at the club who know a lot about how to safely load ammunition, if any newer members have questions, feel free to ask us through the club Facebook page. After all, better loads are safer and more accurate!

Wonderful Weather! 

We've had some wonderful Weather lately and some great shoots. It's great to see some new faces and we are looking forward to things opening up in the future, however we are proceeding as we have been until further notice. 

We are also very pleased to have some new members shadowing as Range Officers, this will allow the club to have a more constant coverage and allow other members that have taken up the position on many occasions to shoot! 

Also, please do remember the range is closed on the 26th of June.

It's wonderful to be back!

A candid shot here of the last range day, we've had glorious sunshine. A brilliant turnout for the last few shoots, it's excellent that we've been able to run the range with such ease, thanks to all the members attending for following the COVID guidelines so closely.

Thanks also to those who attended our virtual AGM, many points were discussed but the main takeaway was we are all eager to get back shooting regularly and there could be some great events on the horizon.

Range days are still booking only, so please do get in contact with Simon A to secure a place, he is currently still keeping range bookings fair and in line with guidelines. Thanks to Neil C for the use of the photo.

An Update from our Secretary

Currently, there are NO sessions left in the AM slot and there are only a handful of places left for the PM session, if you wish to attend please get in touch, it's sure to be a great return shoot!

Opening Again at Cottondale

'We still await confirmation but we are aiming to resume shooting at Cottondale range on 17th April 2021 and more guidance will be released in due course.

Road Back to Shooting... Nearly!

We appreciate your patience!

We know that it has been a long time since we've all been together and had a day at the range, but as the end of lockdown nears there's a hope we will return soon. The NRA has released new guidance which we will be carefully following, but we haven't fully ironed out the details yet. We will keep you up to date via email and we will update the calendar on this site when plans are finalised.

Coronavirus Lockdown Update 

A word from our club Secretary:

'Following discussion with owners of Cotton Dale Range we have been told that they will remain closed until February at the earliest. We have no more clarification around this at this time.'

'The NRA have confirmed that no activity will take place at Bisley until at least mid-March. I feel this conservative approach is a practical one in the circumstances.'

'Needless to say as soon as we have any further updates we will pass them to you! Rest assured we are just as eager to return to shooting safely as you are!'

We wish our members and those out there in lockdown all the best at this tough time, stay safe!

Sorry Folks, we're closed...

What a 2020 we're having. Obviously in light of current circumstances, we are not shooting over the current lockdown period. We are looking at guidance to figure out where the shooting calendar will pick back up afterwards and figuring out whether more strict social distancing will need to be in place. 

We will definitely be back at it as soon as possible though!

We've Moved Inside Again!

Recent changes to the COVID-19 rules have meant we are now able to shoot inside the covered firing point at our home range at Cottondale. You can leave the umbrella at home and enjoy the new and improved range roof, which now affords more light and also newly installed target stands, for shorter range targets.he team at Cottondale have done a great job. We are still pre-booking range slots, but there's plenty of capacity so click here to email if you would like to join us.

The Year Ahead

It seems that COVID-19 might have won this year, but the club is looking to take those bigger calibers out to some longer distances sometime soon. With plans for another Jackal Firearms Charity Shoot near Halloween, the new Eskdalemuir Range is looking like something to look forward to in the new year!

Continuing through COVID

With new members joining recently, we're very happy that Coronavirus hasn't stopped the club growing and the new members we have had up to shoot recently show great sportsmanship.

We are open again!

COVID-19 saw some unprecedented changes and the Club is happy to be open again.

Following Government Guidelines, we have set up organised social distancing measures and we are currently running details by appointment. So far the details have been working well and we're continuing the distancing.

The Jackal Firearms Pumpkin shoot

The Pumpkins were ripe, the aim of the game was to be most accurate while keeping the pumpkin in one piece as much as possible! 

Fun was had by all and some interesting calibers were chosen, some Pumpkins made better Jackal Lanterns than others and in the end, Ian may have won the competition, but it was a wonderful win for us all to have been able to raise over £200 for the Karen Wagstaff Cancer Trust. The Trust is close to all our hearts and this event made for a great time for all involved.

A huge thank you to Jackal Firearms for organising and providing the prizes, it made it all possible!
